Is this you?

Your taxes get filed every year. Nobody is actually planning them.

For most people, taxes are a once-a-year event: hand over a folder, wait, and find out what you owe. By then the year is over. The choices that shaped your tax bill (when you sold, what you put into which account, how your business paid you) were already made without a plan.

We work the other way around. We look at the year ahead while there’s still time to act, so your tax return confirms a plan instead of delivering a surprise.

01

You find out what you owe in April.

By the time your tax return is prepared, the year is closed and there’s nothing left to adjust.

02

You only hear from your CPA once a year.

Raises, bonuses, stock sales, and retirement withdrawals happen with no one checking the tax side first.

03

You got hit with an underpayment penalty.

Estimated payments based on last year’s numbers can come up short when your income changes.

04

You’re not sure your business is set up right.

Your salary, your retirement plan, and how you reimburse yourself all change what you pay, and they’re rarely revisited.

05

Your financial advisor never asks about your taxes.

Investment decisions get made without anyone looking at the tax bill they create.

06

An IRS letter showed up and you’re not sure what it means.

For established tax clients, we help respond to IRS and state notices about tax returns our firm prepared.

What we do

Preparation, projections, and planning.

The April deadline is the smallest part of what we do. The work that actually lowers your tax bill happens months earlier: how your business is set up, when you’re paid, which accounts you put money into, when you sell, and when a Roth conversion makes sense.

We prepare your tax return with care, but the real value is year-round planning, so filing time confirms what you already expected instead of bringing a surprise.

01

Tax preparation

Individual, business, and trust tax returns prepared accurately and on time, with a clear explanation of your tax return, not just a filing.

02

Tax planning

We project your taxes for this year and the years ahead, so you know your tax bill before it’s a surprise and still have time to do something about it.

03

Quarterly estimated payments

If you pay estimated taxes during the year, we calculate the payments from your actual numbers this year, not last year’s.

04

Tax strategy

Setting the right salary for business owners, choosing the right retirement plan, reimbursing yourself tax-free for business expenses, and other owner-level planning.

05

IRS notice assistance

We help established tax clients respond to IRS and state notices about tax returns our firm prepared. We don’t offer standalone tax-resolution or IRS representation services for non-clients.

Common questions
FAQ

Tax questions we hear most.

Don’t see your question? Call the office at 815-459-4300 or send us a message.

How is tax preparation priced?+

It depends on how involved your tax return is. Business income, rental property, K-1s, more than one state, and stock compensation all add work. Call the office and we’ll talk through what your situation involves.

If you’re an ongoing wealth management client, your personal tax return (Form 1040) is included with no separate fee. Business tax returns are billed separately.

Do you just prepare tax returns, or do you plan ahead too?+

Both. Preparing your tax return is where most clients start. Planning is where most of the value is: we project your taxes for the year, set estimated payments from your actual numbers, and look for ways to reduce what you owe while there’s still time to act.

Who do you usually work with?+

Most of our clients are retirees and people approaching retirement, business owners (including S corporations and partnerships), and real estate investors. If your tax situation is simpler, you’re still welcome.

When is the best time to reach out?+

Before the year ends. Fall is when tax projections, Roth conversion decisions, and year-end moves for business owners do the most good. You don’t need to wait for tax season. New clients can start any time of year.

Can you help with an IRS notice?+

Yes, if we prepared the tax return. We help established tax clients respond to IRS and state notices about tax returns our firm prepared. We don’t offer standalone tax-resolution or IRS representation services for non-clients.

How do I get my documents to you?+

Upload them through our secure document portal, linked at the top of every page. If you’re new, start with our New Client Form.

Are you a CPA or an Enrolled Agent?+

Both. Anton Prokopenko is a CPA and an Enrolled Agent, which means he’s enrolled to practice before the IRS. He’s also a CFP® professional, so your tax planning and your financial planning come from the same person.
